D1A Celebrates National Correctional Officer and Employee Appreciation Week

May 8, 2023

WASHINGTON – Today, Day 1 Alliance (D1A), the trade association representing private sector contractors working in the criminal justice and immigration systems, celebrates this year’s National Correctional Officer and Employee Appreciation Week, highlighting the talented men and women employed by D1A member companies:

“This week serves as an important reminder of the service that tens of thousands of Americans provide in our nation’s prisons, community corrections facilities, and immigration system. These corrections officers and employees have the tremendous responsibility of ensuring that the men and women in their care are treated in a professional, dignified, and respectful manner every day. Our strength is in the commitment of our member companies to employ an incredibly talented, compassionate, and diverse workforce, which truly represents the communities they serve.

“Our country owes a great debt of gratitude to all of the corrections officers, expert counselors, social workers, educators, staff, and other public safety employees across America.”

D1A member companies – CoreCivic, The GEO Group, Management & Training Corporation (MTC), and LaSalle Corrections – pride themselves on employing highly talented and diverse workforces. A few data points on our member companies’ employees – over 30,000 total – illustrate this point:

  • Women make up more than half of D1A member company employees.
  • The majority of D1A member company employees are racial and ethnic minorities.
  • Military veterans make up approximately 10% of D1A member company employees – a higher percentage found among the general U.S. population.

About the Day 1 Alliance:

The Day 1 Alliance (D1A) is a trade association representing private sector contractors helping government agencies address corrections and detention challenges in the United States. For more than 35 years, D1A members have worked with local, state, and federal governments led by members of both political parties to provide professional, humane, and respectful treatment to incarcerated and detained individuals. From day one, we understand we have a responsibility to provide safe and dignified care to those in our facilities. D1A members do not lobby for or against policies, regulations, or legislation that impact the basis for or duration of an individual’s incarceration or detention.

The members of the Day 1 Alliance are CoreCivic, The GEO Group, Management & Training Corporation (MTC), and LaSalle Corrections.
