D1A Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month, Highlights Member Companies’ Diverse, Dedicated Workforce

September 16, 2022

WASHINGTONDay 1 Alliance (D1A), the trade association representing private-sector criminal justice and immigration system contractors, celebrates the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month, recognizing the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to our nation’s history, culture, and achievements.

Today, Hispanic Americans make up a larger percentage of D1A member companies’ workforces than the general US population – more than 27 percent on average for CoreCivic, The GEO Group, and MTC.

D1A issued the following statement from National Spokesperson Alexandra Wilkes on National Hispanic Heritage Month:

“Hispanic Americans are a bedrock of Day 1 Alliance member companies’ workforces, and National Hispanic Heritage Month is an important reminder of their incredible contributions to our nation’s history and culture. We’re proud of the commitments made by our member companies to support Hispanic Americans, from engaging with predominately Hispanic communities to hand out school supplies to celebrating Hispanic culture by incorporating Hispanic food, films, and educational opportunities.

“Our diversity is our strength, and our country is deeply enriched by the historical and cultural contributions made by generations of incredible Hispanic Americans.”

About the Day 1 Alliance:

The Day 1 Alliance (D1A) is a trade association representing private sector contractors helping government agencies address corrections and detention challenges in the United States. For more than 35 years, D1A members have worked with local, state, and federal governments led by members of both political parties to provide professional, humane, and respectful treatment to incarcerated and detained individuals. From day one, we understand we have a responsibility to provide safe and dignified care to those in our facilities. D1A members do not lobby for or against policies, regulations, or legislation that impact the basis for or duration of an individual’s incarceration or detention.

The members of the Day 1 Alliance are CoreCivic, The GEO Group, Management & Training Corporation, and LaSalle Corrections.
