D1A’s Statement on Recent ACLU Study
June 26, 2024
Day 1 Alliance (D1A), the trade association representing private-sector criminal justice and immigration system contractors, released the following statement by National Spokesperson Alexandra Wilkes on a recent study issued by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU):
“We’re proud of the role our member companies have played for nearly 40 years to support the border security mission of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Over the last four decades, our members’ innovative solutions have helped the federal government implement the diverse border security policies of seven different Presidential Administrations. These high-quality services at ICE Processing Centers include around-the-clock access to medical care, which is governed by Performance-Based National Detention Standards set by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and independently accredited by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.
“Make no mistake: This report is part of an ideologically-motivated effort to cancel and eliminate a key tool that has been utilized by both Democratic and Republican administrations to effectively and humanely manage immigration surges for decades.
“The aim of these activists isn’t to improve conditions for migrants navigating the U.S. immigration system – their stated goal is to end immigration detention entirely, dismantle the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).”
